Found the picture above from this site here. Thought it was cute and makes a good point.

This Is What I Mean When I Talk About Backhanded Compliments
This image was very popular with short men where I found it. It seems like short men are so starved for affection, they happily accept backhanded compliments.
If a girl told my Asian ass "you have the strength of a white man," I wouldn't take that as a good thing. I would think she harbors racist beliefs. Same with height. People believe taller is better, so when a girl's boyfriend is short, he has to be "tall on the inside" or some shit.
So long as we excuse and encourage this mentality, heightism will never change. There's no sugarcoating it. Still, I'll admit the odds of finding someone who doesn't think this way are slim, so most short men either take it or leave it.
Pathetic state of affairs. Even small breasted women have loads of defenders when they're insinuated to be inferior. See here. I doubt "you have big titties on the inside" would make sense or be accepted by most people. I'd be laughed out of the conversation, not embraced the way short men embrace backhanded compliments.
Life isn't fair, right? More like people go mad for tall height. If we linked this much mental positivity to any other physical trait, it would be deemed a fetish or flat out bigotry.
Here is perhaps the best example of this "great short men are tall" mentality: 5'2 Victor Espinoza is told he performs like a tall man. Guess he wasn't positive or confident enough to simply be a great short man. Great short men are "taller in many metaphorical respects."
Related: a mom tells her son "A man is at his tallest when he stoops to help another," and so I've always told him to "walk tall."

5'2 Victor Espinoza (Jockey) on Dancing with the Stars
All the judges talked about was his size instead of the dance, and he was voted off that same night. Shocking. I mean, the judges made him seem so cool, right?
Blatant proof
of heightism right there. The judges link positive attributes to taller
height, so when a short man displays confidence, he's defying his
inferior body rather than simply being great. If height didn't matter, then why
even bring it up? The judges treated him like a toddler trying to dress up like his
father. They painted him out to be a poseur, a boy in a man's
world playing pretend. "Awwww..."
All he could do was smile like a goof and be "positive" because it's taboo for short men to stand up for ourselves. He would've been "sensitive" and "overreacting" if he talked back. Remember, short men with dignity are insecure. Secure short men take it up the ass.
Funny word swaps from where I found the video:
Another good quote:
I guess had Victor's personality been better and he exuded more confidence, he might've had a chance. After all, nobody cares about height.

"Victor you looked like you were Irish white on that stage"
"Victor you had the commanding presence of a white man"
"whoever said race matters never met you, because that was incredible and because of the race difference it didn't even matter"
Another good quote:
"Don't forget: being praised for seeming taller is supposed to be a compliment for us."

Backhanded Compliments for Short Men
The best a short man will ever be, is cute, like a puppy or little brother: https://twitter.com/shortguylove
Meanwhile, tall guys are sexy or hot.
Even the compliments we get seem backhanded and patronizing. I've also heard "short men are less threatening" before as a compliment. That's not a positive in my book, as it invites bullying and condescension.
I'm finding more and more similarities between short men and Asian men, in the way we're universally deemed less threatening (in general, not just in dating). Still, I've seen white guys get blasted for saying, "I prefer Asian women because they're submissive/feminine." Yet girls can essentially say they think short men are weak and harmless as a positive, and that's just a fact/preference.
Beggars can't be choosers, right? Better to be viewed as a toddler than ugly... Ha! I'm actually just posting this for fun as the "cute" thing doesn't apply to me. I have the face of a troll and the body of a gorilla, so I've been told by other guys I look older and scary.
Of course, a short guy who's intimidating is not cool like a tall bad boy, he's just off-putting. If he's short and skinny and boyish, they'll want to pat him on the head like a child. If he's masculine and bulky, then he's an overcompensating stump.
Oh well. Can't ever win 100% as a short guy. Become president? Napoleon Complex. Lift weights? Compensating. Girls find you attractive? Sike, you're just "cute." What, did you think you could make them pant and sweat heavily? Silly little man.
Adding an extra note: people try to defend this shit with evo psych like, "one of the best way to scare off any animal is to appear as tall and menacing as possible. It isn't a societal thing, it's animal instinct." Fact of the matter is that the tallest land animal is the giraffe, but I doubt elephants are intimidated when they look up at them. Animals care more about overall mass, not height.
So even though taller people weigh more on average, that doesn't matter because most girls are more afraid of a 160 lb tall guy than a 200 lb short man. I'd bet money on it. Human society links power to height alone, not overall size. Many do not take short, well-built men seriously, yet stocky animals like rhinos or gorillas are feared in the wild. Makes no sense.

Short Men Shouldn't Have to Make Up For Their Height
"What a guy lacks in height he makes up for in other
ways."
Quotes like the above are meant as compliments, but it's still a load of bullshit.
In many parts of Asia, dark skin is considered uglier than pale skin. If I said, "what a guy lacks in white skin he makes up for in other ways," I guarantee the politically correct would bust my balls.
Yet when it comes to short men, it's okay to imply we're intrinsically inferior, therefore we have to compensate somehow. Of course, short men who "make up for their height" are labeled as overcompensating, so it's a lose-lose either way.
This whole thing is a fucking joke. Even the feel-good rhetoric feels like a slap in the face.
