Why Height and Weight Are Not the Same

Many people equate short men with fat women. Aside from how society always has to bring up female issues even when they're not relevant, I have a few problems with this comparison in itself:

  • If fat women are the equivalent of short men, then where do fat men stand? I've seen people claim that women don't care as much about male weight, but I disagree. For example, you never see overweight males portrayed in a serious light, like in romance or action, but rather only in comedy. In fact, I'd claim that even when it comes to weight, males have stricter standards to deal with. Society's ideal female weight is to simply be skinny, but that's not enough for men to be considered ideal. Males need to have below average body fat/visible abs.
  • It's considered rude to merely ask or point out a woman's weight, but even when shortness is outright insulted, it's just a prank. Sure, you can find people who insult fat women online, but do this at work or a family gathering and there will be hell to pay. Fat women will also receive much more support from others, with phrases like "body positive, fat shaming, curves, BBW," etc. There are plus size models, and people who flat out prefer overweight women. Men get no such thing.
  • This one goes without saying and yet it still bears repeating: weight is controllable but height is not. It's the difference between judging someone for their lifestyle choices versus their genetics. You can do both in dating, but outside of that, the latter should be considered worse.
Simply put, I do not believe there is any equivalent to short stature, and there doesn't have to be. Is it a rule that we have to link height to other traits anyway?
